Update

It's been so long I know, but the summer was the summer - hot, dry and unpleasant. the winter has been up and down but now spring is here so time to get busy writing again. This post is to share and remember our sweet chickens who we lost to a predator in the coldest part of December.

Glen and I were out and had left them to put themselves to bed as usual. I feel so badly that they were alone and scared during the attack. Glen found them late that night when he went out to put everyone to bed and kept it to himself until morning. I don't know how he managed to get any sleep.

Those girls - never asked for anything except a warm dry coop, fresh water, food and some fun running around in the field. In return they gave us years of enjoyment, laughter and companionship. You couldn't go outside without them running up to see what was up, following and getting right in the middle of whatever you were doing. Picture Dave (the blacksmith) on the ground working on Cameo and the chickens running around under her as he worked. It's amazing no one got kicked.

So to The Girls - Minnie and Daisey (mostly together and staying out of trouble), Zena the biggest and most beautiful who really just wanted to hatch out babies; Thelma and Louise (thanks Nicole and Stephanie they lived up to their names even jumping out of the crate at the age of 2 days) and sweet Poof Baby who loved to be picked up and carried around - I say thank you for a wonderful time and know that I will always love and miss you.
