A Day at the Races

I haven't posted a chicken story for a while so here goes. Last weekend we put the girls out early for some fun in the sun while we worked in the garden. When we decided to put them in so Kit Kat (the serial killer) could go out, they simply refused to go in. All usual treats and methods for getting them in the run failed. We chased, called, threw cracked corn and sunflower seeds - no luck. We spent more time running through the manure pile then I care to think about. After about an hour of this I finally caught one chicken, then another and scooted them into the coop, shut the door and went after the rest. Glen trapped one with the broom and his arm, caught her, then one more. After that we were able to coax the last two in. I hope no one was watching because I can only imagine how ridiculous we looked. I never realized how fast and nimble chickens are! Morale of the story is that the chickens go out at their regular time and we don't worry about putting them in until closer to dark.

Yard Sailing!

Yesterday I got out for some yard sales, the first outing this year. Most of the sales were in areas of younger households so there was lots of baby stuff. Wow, I've never seen so many strollers, car seats; pack n plays etc. Well, I'm not really in the market for baby stuff but a quick look netted me some really cute outfits for Madison (not that she needs any) and a baseball glove for Nathan and a cool telescope. I guess it was a good day. Of course it was Earth day weekend and my birthday so Glen and I went to Quite Waters park for a pic-nic by the water. A beautiful day!

So we were thinking that Knobel's Knook might start having some open house weekends, just a couple of hours either am or afternoon where we could serve a little snack and offer veggies/eggs for sale. Haven't worked it all out but will post here as we get the details worked out.

Bunny explosion!

Happy Easter - We had a wonderful day, the weather was sort of chilly but we worked in the garden for 7 hours so we stayed warm. Planted lots of veggie seeds and some plants. Of course two days of rain may have washed away our work, I'll have to check it out today. Had to make Easter dinner on Monday because we were too tired to cook!

We still have the other half of this first garden to plant and then the other large garden. Plenty of time since the temperature can't seem to get above 50 degrees!

All of the animals are tired of the rain so when the sun comes out today everyone should be happier.

Working in the yard

We had beautiful weather today, sunny and 60. Nathan, Madison and I went for a long walk and then played around here for the morning. One thing we did was a little yard work. Well Madison and I did, Nathan played in the sandbox which he seemed to completely enjoy.

Madison's outfit

I just finished a summer outfit for Madison. I forgot how little the pieces were for baby clothes but the plus side is that the seams are shorter! She tried on the hat yesterday and it fits perfectly. I need to make a tie for the had and I think it should secure with velcro. Now I need to finish my top then on to another project. I think I still have skirt to fix for Stephanie so that should be next.

The garden is calling me, and after 3 days of wind maybe I can get out there this afternoon.

Garden

We started working in the garden over the weekend, one down and one to go. Still need to get some seed potatoes but as soon as the wind stops blowing I've already got cabbage and some other goodies to get in the ground. This will be the first try at potatoes so I won't put in too many.

New Adventures

Well this was the first week that I have had Nathan and Madison. We are trying to work out a routine and so far so good. This afternoon the three of us went out for a nice walk to see the ponies, dogs, garden and chickens. I had Madison in the wonderful carrier Nicole got for us to use. Cameo was none too pleased to see me with a large attachment coming toward her but I guess she will get used to the look. Although I haven't gotten Madison to nap in the Pac N Play today she is napping on the couch without being held. I'm sure the more we get outside the easier it will get.
